A Short History of Nearly Everything
Bill Bryson
The edition behind this number
Read this result carefully
The word history in the title does not place this edition in the 900s. Its Library of Congress record gives the broad science number 500 and describes a first trade paperback edition published by Broadway Books in 2004. A broad number is still a recorded classification; the extra decimal digits seen on other science books do not make their records automatically more accurate. Compare this record with the ISBN and edition of the copy in hand. Revised editions, large-print editions and other formats need their own checks, and a local shelf mark may add author letters or collection information.
The record lists a valid ISBN associated with this edition. That does not independently verify every metadata field, establish a universal number for every version, or give the complete local shelf location. Compare the source with your copy.
